December 20, 2021 marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the wide release of the original Scream movie (watch it HERE), so the marketing department for the new Scream – which is scheduled to reach theatres on January 14, 2022 – has released a featurette that promotes the upcoming “legacy-quel” while also paying tribute to Wes Craven, the director of the four previous Scream films. The new Scream movie is coming to us from Ready or Not (watch that HERE) directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. The screenplay was written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. Vanderbilt also produced the film for Project X Entertainment, alongside Paul Neinstein and William Sherak. Chad Villella, Gary Barber, Peter Oillataguerre, Ron Lynch, Cathy Konrad, and Marianne Maddalena serve as executive producers alongside original Scream writer Kevin Williamson.
The film has the following synopsis:
Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.

Scream franchise stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette are reprising the roles of Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers, and Dewey Riley in the new film. Along with Scream 4‘s Marley Shelton as Judy Hicks, they are joined by franchise newcomers Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Dylan Minnette, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Kyle Gallner, and Sonia Ammar.
It’s good to see that there was so much reverence for Craven on the set of the new Scream, and I look forward to seeing what Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett have done with this chapter in the franchise.
