“Rowdy” Roddy Piper may be gone, but he’s clearly not forgotten. The wrestler-actor-all around great man passed away a few weeks ago, but there have been so many considerate tributes and odes to the dude (including our own) that I’m sure he’d be happy to know how truly missed he is. And then he’d gather us all up in his arms and bodyslam us.
And those of you headed to TIFF will get to see the Rowdy one once more on the big screen when the short film he’s featured in, PORTAL TO HELL!!!, is screened (the exact date hasn’t been revealed yet). Today brings a new teaser for the short, which looks like an absolute blast. It’s unfortunate that this couldn’t be extended into a feature-length film with Roddy at the forefront, but I suppose we’re just lucky enough to have this 11-minute treat to begin with. It’s a good book and he likes it, or at least he would if the tenants of the building he manages weren’t so damn needy themselves. And it’s not just blown fuses and clogged toilets here … no, when the building power goes out the culprit is a pair of tenants opening a portal to hell in the basement. Does this count as building maintenance? Is battling the supernatural part of Jack’s job description? Maybe not, but if Jack can’t close the portal the entire building and – let’s face it – the whole world is screwed.
