The more we see of HEREDITARY writer/director Ari Aster's new film MIDSOMMAR, the more twisted and disturbing it looks – which is a great thing when you're looking forward to a horror movie. A new trailer has been released online and can now be seen below, and while I don't know what the hell this movie's villains are up to, I am very intrigued to find out what their goal is.

Starring Florence Pugh and Jack Reynor, MIDSOMMAR deals with "Scandinavian folk horror" and has been described as both an "apocalyptic breakup" movie and (jokingly) "WIZARD OF OZ for perverts". Drawing clear inspiration from THE WICKER MAN, it centers on

a couple that travels to Sweden to visit their friend's rural hometown for its fabled mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.

Pugh and Reynor's co-stars include Will Poulter, Vilhem Blomgren, William Jackson Harper, Ellora Torchia, and Archie Madekwe.

Recently bumped up from an August date, MIDSOMMAR is scheduled to be released on July 3rd, so we only have about a month and a half left to wait for it.
