New trailer for Damien Chazelle’s The Eddy features jazz, crime & Paris

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Damien Chazelle is returning to the world of jazz with The Eddy, an upcoming Netflix limited-series which stars André Holland (Castle Rock) as Elliot Udo, the owner of a jazz club in modern-day Paris who is struggling to get out of debt from some shady individuals. Netflix has released the first trailer for the new series, which looks mighty promising to my eyes (and ears).

The Eddy was created and written by Jack Thorne (His Dark Materials), with Damien Chazelle directing the first two episodes of the eight episode series. Grammy Award winner Glen Ballard wrote the songs and established the house-band of The Eddy, which is comprised of real-life musicians Randy Kerber, Ludovic Louis, Lada Obradovic, Jowee Omicil, and Damian Nueva Cortes. The trailer brings back memories of Treme, HBO's highly underrated drama series which also featured music from real-life musicians. In addition to André Holland, The Eddy also stars Joanna Kulig. Amandla Stenberg, Taham Rahim, and Leïla Bekhti.

The official synopsis of The Eddy:

Set in the vibrant multicultural neighborhoods of modern-day Paris, THE EDDY tells the story of the owner of a struggling club, its house band and the dangers they face from the chaotic city that surrounds them.Interspersed with dynamic and uplifting performances, THE EDDY conveys the power of music to heal, unite and turn chaos into beauty.

The Eddy will debut on Netflix on May 8, 2020.
