Nico Tortorella joins the cast of new Walking Dead series

Nico Tortorella Scream 4

I've been out of the loop on Nico Tortorella's career. While the only thing I've ever seen the actor in was SCREAM 4 (pictured above) back in 2011, they have actually been working steadily over the last eight years, earning credits on projects like the Dean Koontz adaptation ODD THOMAS, the Kevin Williamson series The Following, MENENDEZ: BLOOD BROTHERS, and the TV Land show Younger.

I'll be seeing Tortorella on my screen again soon, because they have closed a deal to join the cast of the upcoming, still untitled new series in the Walking Dead franchise. Tortorella, who identifies as non-binary in their personal life, will be playing a character named Felix, "an honorable man of his word who isn't afraid to fight for others' safety and acceptance."

Co-created by Scott M. Gimple and showrunner Matt Negrete, this new series will center on

two young female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.

Tortorella's co-stars will include Alexa Mansour, Nicolas Cantu, Hal Cumpston, Aliyah Royale, and Annet Mahendru. You can get a look at their characters in the teaser below, which also features some very intriguing concept art.

Production on the show has begun in and around Richmond, Virginia, with KONG: SKULL ISLAND's Jordan Vogt-Roberts directing the pilot episode.

Fans of Younger may be concerned to hear that Tortorella has been cast on another show, but the announcement includes the assurance that Tortorella's Walking Dead duties will not keep them from continuing to appear on Younger.

The last eight episodes of Fear the Walking Dead's fifth season will air over the next couple months, leading up to the October premiere of The Walking Dead's tenth season. Once The Walking Dead season 10 wraps up, this new series will make its debut in the spring of 2020.
