Word is spreading across the net like wildfire that Platinum Dunes are now officially on board the remake of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. It’s been bounced around for months that Platinum Dunes were very interested in producing this remake, but nothing has ever been set until now.
Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are looking to go the same route they went with FRIDAY THE 13TH for A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. They want to go back to the basics, make it about this sadistic serial killer who slaughters teens in their dreams. That’s what they’re working the movie from…. and I love that idea. Don’t get me wrong though, the thought of this remake stills gives me that feeling in the pit of my stomach… and I’m not talking about the good one.
Sure, I’m a bit more at ease now considering the FRIDAY THE 13TH remake is looking awesome. But there’s no beating the original NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. You put that shit up against any horror movie in the past 15 years and it’ll shine. You want another kicker? Plat. Dunes have also confirmed that they’re not interested in bringing Freddy Krueger himself Robert Englund back as the fedora wearing maniac. The word on this broke months ago… so I think most of us have made our peace with it… but it still stings.
Wesley Strick is working on a script now for NIGHTMARE with a Spring/Summer 09 start date being eyed. Works for me. Hopefully this means we’ll be getting word on who might be putting on the knived glove soon. Mind you, the previously rumored Billy Bob Thornton shot down those rumors himself on a recent episode of Late Night with Conan O’Brien. So who else can you see playing Freddy? Keep it here for updates.
