Nightmare, killer?

Here’s a sweet little horror flick that’ll be having its premier on IFC Festival Direct. It’s a violent bit of a head-scratcher simply titled NIGHTMARE from first-time writer/director Dylan Bank. Fango scored some new pics from the flick (up top and below) that are pretty frightening, mostly because the dude is shirtless in all of ’em. However, the plot of NIGHTMARE does seem devilishly disturbing (and fun). Here, have a look:

The morning after a wild party, a young film student awakens in the arms of a mysterious actress. Unsure where they are, the two are startled to find a video camera at the foot of the bed aimed at them. Suspicious of one another, the lovers decide to watch the tape. Their apprehension turns to terror as they see themselves on screen gleefully committing a savage murder in the room they’ve just slept in. But there are no victims, no blood, no sign of struggle.

The aspiring director doesn’t have time to investigate. He is late for a very important class – he has to pitch his next film. Arriving late to class, he recounts the horrifying experience he just walked away from, convincing them that it is fiction. By the time the class enthusiastically votes to produce his movie, it is too late for him to back out. So now, the director spends his days filming the waking nightmares that he discovers nearly every morning on videotape, and spends his nights searching for who is filming him.

Hmm, pretty intriguing. I like the way this sort of combines a “movie-within-a-movie” theme. You can also check out the more-than-serviceable trailer by clicking here.

The cast of NIGHTMARE is composed of J. Bloomrosen, Jolan Boockvor, Jason Scott Campbell, Richard Cohen, and Raymond Russell Hamlin. It’s set to premier on IFC Festival Direct on January 14th 2009.
