NO TIME TO DIE was originally slated to hit theaters in April of this year, but as we know, COVID-19 had other plans and the film experienced several delays before finally settling on an April 2, 2021 release. While that date is still close to six months away, it's hard to say if enough theaters will be open to justify its release, and director Cary Fukunaga told the Wall Street Journal that it's possible we'll see the film pushed back yet again.
"I think there’s always the potential of that," Fukunaga said. "I look at it unemotionally right now…. There are so many bigger things happening. I have friends who are losing businesses, restaurants, and other friends who have lost family members…. The film will come out when it’s right, and it will perform in the context of this new world, in which no one really can define what success or failure means." That said, when NO TIME TO DIE does eventually hit theaters, be it next April or some other date, Fukunaga is looking forward to setting the film loose and experiencing it with an audience.
It doesn’t feel like the film’s journey is complete until it’s been shared. Until then, it’s a secret… I’ve never seen it with an audience. I would love to watch it with an audience the first opportunity I get,” he says. “And that will probably be the next time and last time I see it.
NO TIME TO DIE will continue on where SPECTRE left off, with James Bond having left active service to begin a new life with Dr. Swann (Léa Seydoux), but Bond is soon brought back into action when Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) comes calling to enlist his help in searching for a missing scientist. When it becomes apparent that the scientist was abducted, Bond must confront a danger the likes of which the world has never seen before in a villain armed with dangerous new technology. The film also stars Rami Malek, Lashana Lynch, Ana de Armas, Christoph Waltz, Ben Whishaw, Naomi Harris, Rory Kinnear, and Ralph Fiennes, with Cary Fukunaga directing from a script he co-wrote with Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
