Lee Cronin says there no truth to the rumors about being asked to change The Mummy’s name

With a new Evil Dead movie having just dropped, I feel like it’s even stranger to look back on Lee Cronin’s The Mummy. Despite being a new adaptation of a classic monster, the film really does come across more like an Evil Dead spinoff than anything else. While I didn’t love the film, I still appreciated it when it tried to do something that felt in line with the mummy as we know it. I’ve always said that the mummy is amongst the most underrated of the classic lineup. I just lost a lot of interest whenever it felt like the Necronomicon was just off-screen.

I spoke with Lee Cronin about his film, and we got into how he actually turned down a new Evil Dead in order to make his Mummy film. There had been a rumor last year that the studio was looking to change the name of the film, not wanting to confuse moviegoers, since a fourth Brendan Fraser Mummy film had been announced.
