I couldn’t pass up this story in celebration of THE DARK KNIGHT’s release on DVD today. Yes, before I get into the news, today is the day we’ve all once again been waiting for. THE DARK KNIGHT is being released on DVD. Oh what a happy day. Now obviously this is a smart release date in regards to holiday shopping… but let’s be serious. Who can wait until Christmas to get this bad boy? I know I can’t. As soon as my ass wakes up later on I’ll be heading to me nearest DVD distributor and picking up a copy on Blu-Ray… oh joy.
But enough about my arousal for the DVD release. It seems Christopher Nolan is also getting a bit excited for the release, seeing how he finally spilled some news on the next BATMAN sequel. It’s nothing major, but definitely refreshing since Nolan has been a closed book on the matter.
He recently spoke to USA Today in regards to his record-breaking film. Eventually the topic turned to the sequel, understandably so. He mentioned how he’s been working on some ideas, but nothing that really strikes his fancy enough to concentrate on. Here’s a bit on what he had to say:
“It was obvious when the box office was so big that we had underestimated how ready fans were to reboot the franchise. The worst thing you could do now that you’ve gotten the plane back in the air is mess up the landing.”
That’s a great way of putting it. In regards to making a third film in a successful franchise, Nolan stated:
“I don’t know why they’re hard to do. Maybe there’s so much expectation to them. But I wouldn’t want to do one if it weren’t going to be as good as the first or second. That’s not respectful to the fans.”
While Warner Bros. are pushing hard for another BATMAN film, it’s nice to see Nolan taking his time and not rushing into it like most sequels. Though I think it’s safe to say there’s no topping THE DARK KNIGHT, so Nolan has some major headaches ahead of him if he’s going to try.

In other TDK news, Variety confirmed that THE DARK KNIGHT score has a chance for the coveted Oscar. The score joins Christopher Nolan, Heath Ledger, and the film itself in possible Oscar contention.
