Screen Daily has learned that Noomi Rapace is in talks to star as Amy Winehouse in a movie about the late British soul singer. AUGUST RUSH director Kirsten Sheridan will helm the biopic (working title AMY WINEHOUSE) and Sheridan also wrote the film's script. According to the site, "Music rights are currently in negotiation on the development project."

An Asif Kapadia-directed documentary about Winehouse titled AMY was released earlier this year to very positive reviews (JoBlo.com's Chris Bumbray gave it a 9/10), however it was also heavily criticized by the Winehouse family. Her father, Mitch Winehouse, in particular was extremely unhappy with the film, claiming it portrayed him as the villain.

I never really got into Winehouse's music like others did, but I think Noomi Rapace is an excellent choice to play the the singer-songwriter, and hopefully the film won't be a standard by-the-numbers biopic. Would you be interested in checking out AMY WINEHOUSE?
