There’s a new dynamic duo coming to Prime Video now that Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer (Hidden FiguresMaSelf Made) and Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham (Ted LassoGame of ThronesSex Education) are teaming up for a straight-to-series comedy project from creator Tessa Coates (Feel GoodLadhood). In addition to their starring roles, Spencer and Waddingham executive produce. Prime Video won the rights to host the project after a competitive situation. The concept comes from Skydance Television.

The 8-episode series hails from one of Coates’ original ideas. It focuses on two best friends, Judith (Waddingham) and Debbie (Spencer), who think they know everything about each other. Lucky for us, their friendship goes to the next level when Debbie learns about Judith’s double life as a highly trained assassin. Debbie gets caught up in Judith’s mess when a hit goes terribly wrong, and the duo must run for their lives while trying to repair their shattered trust. Meanwhile, a mysterious killer attempts to snuff them out at every turn, leaving Debbie at Judith’s mercy and in desperate need of a crash course on survival.

Joining Skydance Entertainment in the production effort are Andy and Barbara Muschietti through Double Dream, with Spencer’s Orit Entertainment also on board.

“I was in as soon as I heard Tessa’s stunning pitch. To be able to dive into a role like Debbie is rare, and working with Hannah to bring this unique friendship to life is a dream,” said Spencer. “We knew we had something special with Skydance and Double Dream, and now that we have a home at Amazon, our vision has become a reality.”

“I’m not gonna lie, a few expletives fell out of my face at the prospect of working with the magnificent Ms. Spencer, Tessa Coates’ hugely energetic, exhilarating script, Skydance and Double Dream,” Waddingham shared. “To then see the immediate excited response from a mighty beast like Amazon! It’s all just incredibly exciting, and I can’t wait to get our collective teeth into it!”

Spencer and Waddingham’s star power and Coates’ unique vision could make this Prime Video comedy series a must-see experience. I’m a massive fan of Spencer and Waddingham and can’t wait to witness their on-screen chemistry. Not to mention Coates’ brilliant work on Feel Good, an emotional tale of new love, addictive behaviors, and breaking down the walls that hold you back. We’ll bring you more details as this new project develops.
