Oliver Tree, the American singer-songwriter, record producer, rapper, and filmmaker, has died at 32 in a fatal helicopter crash in Brazil. In addition to Tree, the tragic incident killed five others after two helicopters collided above an electric vehicle yard in Southwest Rio de Janeiro on Sunday morning. According to reports, Tree and four others were inside one helicopter, while only the pilot was in the other. Excluding Tree, the other victims’ names were Lucas Vignale, Gaspar Prim, Lucas Brito Chaves, and pilot Alexandre Souza.
Who is Oliver Tree?
Easily recognized for his cartoonish bowl cut that somehow transforms into a mullet and loud windbreaker and trainers look, Tree stepped onto the entertainment scene in 2010 at the age of 17. He began working under Skrillex and Zeds Dead as “Tree” before branching out on his own. Before taking a break to study music and tech, he released the independent album “Splitting Branches.” His first EP, titled “Demons,” was released in 2013 under R&S Records. When he released “When I’m Down” in 2016, that’s when his star began to rise. A month after the record’s launch, he signed with Atlantic Records, releasing “Welcome to LA” shortly thereafter.
Tree’s 2018 EP “Alien Boy” gave him his biggest bump yet, making him a staple of electronic and online culture. He eventually became a massive draw among younger YouTube users, with his signature look and earworm tunes becoming more popular than ever.
What was Oliver Tree doing in Brazil?
Sadly, Tree was in the middle of a headlining tour for his fourth studio album, “Love You Madly, Hate You Badly,” when the accident occurred. Currently, fans are flocking to social media to express their condolences over Tree’s passing. While there’s no shortage of extreme personalities in the music industry, Oliver Tree carved out a unique spot for himself among other titans of the scene. He was the type of artist who made you question what he would get up to next, and his death is certainly a surprise to all.
We extend our condolences to Oliver Tree’s family, friends, and fans during this tragic time. It sucks to see someone who brought people happiness pass at such a young age. Rest well, sir.
