Once Upon A Time In Hollywood will premiere at Cannes

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

After what seems like months of back and forth and back and forth, it looks Quentin Tarantino’s ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, and Brad Pitt will have its world premiere at Cannes after all and will play in the competition.

General Delegate Thierry Frémaux said of the film’s late inclusion:

We were afraid the film would not be ready, as it wouldn’t be released until late July, but Quentin Tarantino, who has not left the editing room in four months, is a real, loyal and punctual child of Cannes. Like for Inglourious Basterds, he’ll definitely be there – 25 years after the Palme d’or for Pulp Fiction – with a finished film screened in 35mm and his cast in tow (Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt). His film is a love letter to the Hollywood of his childhood, a rock music tour of 1969, and an ode to cinema as a whole. In addition to thanking Quentin and his crew for spending days and nights in the editing room, the festival wants to give special thanks to the teams at Sony Pictures, who made all of this possible.

I'm glad to hear the film will be playing at Canne as I can't wait to find out if this is a new Tarantino masterpiece… or not. Fingers crossed! ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD is set

in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood. The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (DiCaprio), former star of a western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Pitt). Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognize anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor… Sharon Tate.

The film boasts a massive cast. DiCaprio, Pitt, and Robbie's co-stars include Damon Herriman (as Charles Manson), Al Pacino, Bruce Dern, Michael Madsen, Scoot McNairy, Rafal Zawierucha, Emile Hirsch, Costa Ronin, Luke Perry, Dakota Fanning, Clifton Collins Jr., Keith Jefferson, Nicholas Hammond, Rumer Willis, Dreama Walker, Margaret Qualley, Victoria Pedretti, Madisen Beaty, Danny Strong, Sydney Sweeney, James Landry Hébert, Mikey Madison, Spencer Garrett, Eddie Perez, Maurice Compte, Maya Hawke, Lena Dunham, Austin Butler, Lorenza Izzo, James Remar, Martin Kove, Brenda Vaccaro, Nichole Galicia, Zoe Bell, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, Timothy Olyphant, James Marsden, Marco Rodríguez, Ramón Franco, Raul Cardona, Julia Butters, Damian Lewis, Mike Moh, and Clu Gulager. ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD hits theatres on July 26th.
