The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live gets a teaser trailer and a February premiere

AMC has released a teaser trailer for the Rick and Michonne limited series The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live

The Walking Dead wrapped up its eleven season run on AMC last year, and now we are in the era of spin-off follow-ups. The first season of The Walking Dead: Dead City, focusing on the Maggie and Negan characters, played out earlier this year. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is nearing the end of its first season run (and will adding the Carol character into the mix for season 2). Next up is The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, a limited series that will be catching up with Rick and Michonne, played by Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira – and now AMC has released a teaser trailer for the show, revealing that it will start airing in February 2024. The teaser trailer can be viewed in the embed above.

Gurira co-created the mini-series and is also one of the writers on the show. Consisting of six episodes, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will present an “epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?

Gurira is working on the mini-series with Scott M. Gimple, Chief Content Officer of the Walking Dead Universe. Self spoke with Gimple about their collaboration, and he told them, “She challenges me, I challenge her, and neither one of us lets the other off the hook. In life, I’m more a character actor; Danai is a lead. When we’re working, when we’re pitching, when we’re just dealing with life stuff—it’s a good combo.” Describing Gurira as “incredibly creatively ambitious,” Gimple added, “[Danai] wants to do new, signature work—stuff that isn’t out there currently. She doesn’t want to settle in any way. It’s the best creative energy to be around.”

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live was filmed in New Jersey. Lincoln and Gurira are joined in the cast by fellow The Walking Dead cast member Pollyanna McIntosh as Jadis, Lesley-Ann Brandt (Lucifer) as a character named Pearl Thorne, Terry O’Quinn (Lost) as Beale, and newcomer Matt Jeffries as Nat.

Gimple is the showrunner and serves as executive producer with Lincoln, Gurira, Denise Huth, and Brian Bockrath.
