If you’re into shakey camera work, video quality film, and stretching 80 minutes to feel like 3 hours, then you’ll be stoked to hear that OPEN WATER is hitting the DVD wave December 28th. The film, based on the true story of a couple of scuba divers accidently left in the middle of the ocean- and their encounters with sharks- was raved by critics everywhere when it came out early last summer.
Why? I’m not really sure. I found it to be boring, I didn’t care about any of the charactors, and when I walked out, I wondered if I’d ever get that 80 minutes back. Definately not the ‘feel good movie of the year’! I’ll say one thing though- the idea of that happening is damn terrifying, and for that, I’ll give it props.
While the movie itself was low budget, Lions Gate stopped at nothing to make this DVD… just as low budget. I guess I figured they’d hook it up with plenty of cool features, but alas, it’s pretty bare.
