Opus: Amber Midthunder, John Malkovich, Juliette Lewis, & more join A24 horror film

Mark Anthony Green’s A24 horror film Opus is set to star Amber Midthunder, John Malkovich, Juliette Lewis, Ayo Edebiri, and more

Amber Midthunder battled the iconic Predator in the film Prey last year, and now Deadline reports that she is set to star in a mysterious horror project called Opus for A24. Also in the cast are Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), John Malkovich (Billions), Stephanie Suganami (Power Book II: Ghost), Young Mazino (Beef), Tatanka Means (Killers of the Flower Moon), and The White Lotus Emmy winner Murray Bartlett. Juliette Lewis (Yellowjackets) is also in talks to join the cast.

The feature debut of writer/director Mark Anthony Green, Opus is being kept shrouded in secrecy, but Deadline did hear the story centers on an iconic pop star’s return following his decades-long disappearance.

A24 is producing and financing the film, and will be handling its global distribution. Opus is being produced by Collin Creighton and Brad Weston of Makeready, Poppy Hanks and Jelani Johnson of Macro Film Studios, and Josh Bachove. Macro’s Charles D. King serves as an executive producer with Sara Newkirk Simon and musical artists The-Dream and Nile Rodgers, who recently won a Grammy for their work on the Beyonce song “Cuff It”. As a follow-up to that win, The-Dream and Nile Rodgers will be writing original songs for this horror movie.

Mark Anthony Green previously directed the award-winning comedy short Trapeze, U.S.A., but he’s probably better known for his work in the fashion industry. According to Deadline, he was the Special Projects Director at GQ Magazine, “making him one of the magazine’s leading fashion and culture voices.” So now that he has let the world know his fashion taste, he’s ready to show us what he can do at the helm of a horror movie.

I don’t know what to expect from Opus… I don’t read GQ and haven’t even heard that “Cuff It” song… but Green has definitely assembled a solid cast for the film.

How does Opus sound to you? Are you a fan of the A24 brand of horror, and/or are you interested in hearing the songs The-Dream and Nile Rodgers will be coming up with for the movie? Share your thoughts on this one by leaving a comment below.
