Original Blair Witch director hoping to make a TV series based on the films!

TV shows based on horror movies are nothing new. Hell, both FRIDAY THE 13th and NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET had one. And with the recent successes of BATES MOTEL and THE EXORCIST, it seems the time might indeed be ready for more TV shows based on horror movies. And it seems Eduardo Sanchez – co-director of the original THE BLAIR WITCH – agrees.

In fact, Sanchez spoke to the podcast Diminishing Returns about that prospect, and what that might entail:

For us, it’s a very natural thing to go and say 'Hey, let’s do a frickin’ Blair Witch show!' And you can say it’s from the original creators and we can bring in a whole bunch of interesting directors to direct episodes…I think that the idea of a Blair Witch anthology has always been very – just a really interesting thing…I think it might be one of those things that it might be – you know? The more you think about it, you’re like 'That might be the perfect… a TV show. You know?' So, we’ll see what happens, but I think that’s the next big thing for Blair Witch. Probably TV.

Later in the interview, however, Sanchez points out that it's ultimately at the mercy of Lionsgate as he doesn't own any of the rights any more. However, with the failure of the Adam Wingard-directed sequel from last year, this prospect seems unlikely. Though, on the other hand, 90s nostalgia is all the rage now, so maybe it has a chance after all?

So, any fans of THE BLAIR WITCH movies? And if that's the case, would you be interested in a TV show?
