Here’s something very cool for you GODZILLA purists. Seems as though a small but committed Facebook campaign to get original GODZILLA star Akira Takarada has resulted in the veteran actor being cast in a small role in Gareth Edwards’ in-production remake! Warner Bros. revealed the cameo via their Twitter page, posting the above picture of Takarada and Edwards on the Vancouver set of the epic.
Takarada played “Hideto Ogata” in the original GODZILLA (or GOJIRA, if you prefer), as well as GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS, MOTHRA VS. GODZILLA, GODZILLA VERSUS THE SEA MONSTER and GODZILLA FINAL WARS.
No telling how large Takarada’s role will be, but it’s likely to be small, so you GODZILLA geeks will have to be on the look-out once the film hits in May of next year. Takarada joins a cast that includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen (pictured below), Bryan Cranston, David Strathairn, Juliette Binoche, Richard T. Jones and Ken Watanabe.
