Keeley Hawes of Bodyguard and Line of Duty has signed on to join previously announced cast members Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Amanda Fix (Broken Diamonds), and Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) in the cast of Orphan Black: Echoes, a new series set in the world of the sci-fi thriller Orphan Black. Deadline reports that Hawes is taking on the role of “a perceptive but sensitive scientist who finds herself at odds with her own moral code when circumstances lead her to make an unthinkable choice.”

The first season of Orphan Black: Echoes will consist of ten episodes. The show is set in the near future and will “explore the scientific manipulation of human existence”. It follows

a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal.

While we don’t have details on Ritter’s character, it has been said that Fix will be playing Jules, “a salty teen trying to find herself. The newly adopted daughter of wealthy parents, Jules is tough as nails, a little reckless but brutally smart.” Jogia is taking on the role of “Lucy’s (Ritter) boyfriend Jack, a soft-spoken former army medic and single father. He’s devoted his life to raising his daughter and discovers the woman he loves has an unimaginable secret.”

Orphan Black: Echoes is expected to premiere on AMC and the AMC+ streaming service sometime in 2023.

Ritter is executive producing Orphan Black: Echoes alongside creator/showrunner Anna Fishko, original series co-creator/director John Fawcett, and Boat Rocker’s David Fortier, Ivan Schneeberg, Katie O’Connell Marsh, Nick Nantell, and Kerry Appleyard.

Orphan Black ran for five seasons on BBC America. Tatiana Maslany, now the star of the Marvel / Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, starred as Sarah, “an outsider and orphan whose life changes dramatically after witnessing the suicide of a woman who looks just like her. Sarah assumes her identity, her boyfriend and her bank account. But instead of solving her problems, the street smart chameleon is thrust headlong into a kaleidoscopic mystery. She makes the dizzying discovery that she and the dead woman are clones… but are they the only ones? Sarah quickly finds herself caught in the middle of a deadly conspiracy and must race to find answers about who she is and how many others there are just like her.” (Thanks to Fandom.com for the synopsis.) Over the course of the series, Maslany ended up playing fourteen different clones.

In addition to the projects mentioned above, Keeley Hawes’ credits include The Avengers (1998), MI-5, the Time Heist episode of Doctor Who, High-Rise, The Missing, Traitors, Misbehaviour, The Midwich Cuckoos, and Ben Wheatley’s version of Rebecca. She has also provided the voice of Lara Croft for multiple Tomb Raider video games.
