Back in April, AMC officially announced that they’re moving forward with a new series set in the world of the sci-fi thriller Orphan Black. This spinoff (or offshoot, whichever you prefer) is called Orphan Black: Echoes, and it has now found its lead! While Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany has gone on to star in the upcoming Marvel series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, TVLine reports that Orphan Black: Echoes is going to star Marvel alum Krysten Ritter, who was previously the star of Jessica Jones.

Ritter will also be executive producing Orphan Black: Echoes alongside creator/showrunner Anna Fishko, original series co-creator/director John Fawcett, and Boat Rocker’s David Fortier, Ivan Schneeberg, Katie O’Connell Marsh, Nick Nantell, and Kerry Appleyard.

The first season of Orphan Black: Echoes will consist of ten episodes. The show is set in the near future and will “explore the scientific manipulation of human existence”. It follows

a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal.

The show is expected to premiere on AMC and the AMC+ streaming service sometime in 2023.

Orphan Black ran for five seasons on BBC America. Maslany starred as Sarah, “an outsider and orphan whose life changes dramatically after witnessing the suicide of a woman who looks just like her. Sarah assumes her identity, her boyfriend and her bank account. But instead of solving her problems, the street smart chameleon is thrust headlong into a kaleidoscopic mystery. She makes the dizzying discovery that she and the dead woman are clones… but are they the only ones? Sarah quickly finds herself caught in the middle of a deadly conspiracy and must race to find answers about who she is and how many others there are just like her.” (Thanks to Fandom.com for the synopsis.) Over the course of the series, Maslany ended up playing fourteen different clones.
