Syfy has just released the first trailer for “12 Monkeys”, their TV adaptation of Terry Gilliam’s popular 1995 film of the same name. The show will follow the journey of a time traveler (Aaron Stanford) from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race.
The trailer gives us a solid look at what the series has in store and I’ve got to say that it looks way more straight-faced than I was expecting. Gilliam's film was all sorts of off-the-wall nuts, so much so that I figured Syfy would try to bring some of that same level of weird to the series. That being said, I do like their straightforward approach to the story because it will at least help distance itself from Gilliam's film. So far it doesn't look half bad, so there's that. Amanda Schull, Noah Bean and Kirk Acevedo star alongside Aaron Stanford. Look for the series to premiere in January of 2015.
