Today, the inevitable happened: The Hollywood Reporter announced the first casting news for the FRIDAY THE 13TH remake, and this one should throw you for a loop. And by that, I mean, you could probably care less–at least, I know I could (care less, that is).
Jared Padalecki, one half of the starring force behind The CW’s SUPERNATURAL (and star of the HOUSE OF WAX remake), has been cast as the male lead in FRIDAY THE 13TH–his character set to play a dude investigating the murders up at Camp Crystal Lake, further proving this is more like FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3.5 than a full blown remake, as Jason will be sporting his infamous hockey mask in the film, and… well, he’s more than just a couple of bubbles in the lake.
Interesting casting, not because of Padalecki, but because of the earlier reports that Jason would be having a guest appearance in an upcoming episode of SUPERNATURAL (a rumor later revoked–CHECK IT OUT). I suppose there was a small grain of truth to that rumor, now that Padalecki is on board….
Directed by Marcus Nispel from Platinum Dunes the remake kings, FRIDAY THE 13TH is looking to hit theaters everywhere Friday, February 13th, 2009.
They should also cast Elisha Cuthbert for a little HOUSE OF WAX reunion!
