Back in March we found out that the dreaded MONSTER SQUAD remake is indeed happening under the watchful eye of Platinum Dunes. Groans escaped the lips of genre fans everywhere in unision as we heard the news. Today more groans are heard throughout the world as the project is finally moving forward with the hiring of a couple writers to pen the screenplay. I suppose it had to happen sooner or later, right?
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog the writing duo of Mark and Brian Gunn have been tapped with the task of penning this new retelling of the classic film. The cousins jump on board with filmmaker Rob Cohen, who not only produced the original MONSTER SQUAD but will actually be producing and directing this remake. As I’m sure we all remember, Cohen last directed THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR so the guy is no stranger to the classic monsters.
Cohen and fellow producers Michael Bay, Andrew Form, Brad Fuller and David Ladd are hoping this MONSTER SQUAD reboot will be the start of a brand new family-oriented franchise. Time will tell I suppose. Seeing how things on this un-needed remake are finally starting to move forward we’ll be sure to update you all on the latest as soon as we hear it!
