Passenger List podcast starring Kelly Marie Tran to become a TV series

Adapting podcasts into live-action series is one of the latest trends to hit Hollywood and now Passenger List, the mystery thriller podcast starring Star Wars actress Kelly Marie Tran, is set to get a television remake in addition to being renewed for a second season.

The podcast series, which is produced by Radiotopia from PRX and created by John Scott Dryden, is getting the small screen treatment courtesy of Weimaraner Republic Pictures. For the podcast, Kelly Marie Tran lends her voice to the role of Kaitlin Le, a college student whose twin brother vanished with Atlantic Flight 702 along with 256 passengers on board. Suspicious of the official version of events, Kaitlin pursues her own reality-bending investigation. (via Deadline) Tran was joined by Patti LuPone (WITNESS, HEIST), Colin Morgan (Merlin, LEGEND), and Rob Benedict (Supernatural) for the first season of the must-listen podcast.

Passenger List is a deep mystery grounded by the incredibly human determination it takes to pursue the truth,” said Dryden. “At the center is Kaitlin Le, a character who wouldn’t exist without Kelly Marie Tran’s remarkable creativity. We can’t wait to present season two, which we’re hard at work on now despite the realities of COVID-19 restrictions. It will pick up right where season one left off.”

“We’re proud to support a show as ambitious as Passenger List, said Julie Shapiro, executive producer of Radiotopia from PRX. “Season one engaged listeners around the world with a gripping story and inventive audio production, which season two also promises to deliver.”

After starring in the role of Rose Tico for two of the final films in Star Wars' Skywalker Saga, Tran went on to star as Lauren for Hulu's Monsterland series. Soon she'll star as the voice of Dawn for Dreamworks Animation's THE CROODS: A NEW AGE, and as Raya for Walt Disney Studios' RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON.

Hollywood might have slowed down for a while due to the coronavirus outbreak but that hasn't kept Tran from landing roles and continuing her career as an in-demand actress. This after all the hate she'd encountered for her Rose Tico role. That's called moxie, folks, and she's got it in spades.
