Last week, the Internets was ablaze with conversation surrounding an anonymous letter from someone claiming to be a former Warner Bros insider. This letter was incredibly toxic towards WB leadership, especially in regards to how they have handled DC Comics adaptations to date. One comment of note in letter was focused on WONDER WOMAN.
What are you even doing? I wish to God you were forced to live out of a car until you made a #1 movie of the year. Maybe Wonder Woman wouldn't be such a mess. Don't try to hide behind the great trailer. People inside are already confirming it's another mess. It is almost impressive how you keep rewarding the same producers and executives for making the same mistakes, over and over.

Now, you will recall that audiences were incredibly receptive to the first trailer that debuted at Comic Con last month but with the recent critical reaction to SUICIDE SQUAD, it is difficult to totally discount that there could be some truth to this. Still, an unsubstantiated letter claiming the movie is in trouble doesn't exactly mean that it actually is. But, Patty Jenkins herself has taken to social media to address the negative buzz bubbling online.
Real lasso of truth, time, will reveal that letter to be false soon enough. But lame something so transparent in its agenda gets traction.

Of course a director is going to defend their film (unless you are this guy). The WONDER WOMAN trailer could be just an incredibly well edited piece of advertising which hides a bad movie underneath. Or, the movie could actually be good. It will be tough to say for certain under the finished film is screened for audiences.
I am not one to judge a film on a trailer nor am I someone who will take one person's word for it. If WONDER WOMAN is truly a mess, that will be the result of studio meddling or an incompetent crew. Just like any bad film, there is someone to blame, but that doesn't mean people cannot find enjoyment in the finished product. Fans are enjoying SUICIDE SQUAD despite what the critics say. There is no massive conspiracy to destroy DC films but there may be something in Warner Bros' approach that should be adjusted as well.
We will all find out for sure how good the movie is when WONDER WOMAN opens on June 2, 2017.
