SHAUN OF THE DEAD and HOT FUZZ: What words come to mind when you hear mention of these two flicks? Brilliant? Hilarious? Ideal Homages? Genre-friendly? F*cking Awesome? That is just a short list off the top of my head. However, one word that I never would have thought to associate with those two films is TRILOGY. However, it seems that is exactly what director, Edgar Wright, and stars, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (all 3 above), had always planned. And now we have word from Wright himself on the title of the final installment in what they are calling the Three-Flavored Cornetto Trilogy (apparently it is also informally referred to as the Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy). I like the second name better.
Anyway, movie number three is going to be called THE WORLD’S END. Fitting title, I says. While speaking at a London press conference about his new two-picture deal with Working Title Films, Wright revealed the flick’s title. When asked if it was going to be centering on a sci-fi/doomsday theme, the director replied, “It’s kind of going in that direction.”
Wright will be directing Pegg once again and for now, that is the only other fact known so far. However, you can bet your fat ass that sidekick extraordinaire, Nick Frost, will be on board as well. Honestly, I am not afraid to deem these three gentlemen as geniuses for the genre. Not only is their work satisfying on a satiric level, but it’s usually even better than the actual movies they’re spoofing! And now that I know we’ll be getting a third helping of their collective talents, it makes me want to joyfully shoot my gun up and the air and go, “AAAHHHHHH!”
