A trailer has been unveiled for Pendulum, an upcoming horror thriller starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Looper), Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton), Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), and Jacki Weaver (Animal Kingdom). Written and directed by Mark Heyman, the film is produced by Darren Aronofsky, the filmmaker behind Black Swan, The Wrestler, and The Whale. Vertical will release Pendulum in theatres nationwide on January 1, 2027, and you can watch the trailer in the embed above.

What Is Pendulum About?

Pendulum follows married couple Patrick (Gordon-Levitt) and Abigail (Dynevor), who travel to a secluded new-age retreat in New Mexico after experiencing a shared tragedy. Hoping to find a way forward, they become involved with a community led by Ella-Rose (Weaver), a charismatic and highly revered spiritual healer. But their retreat takes a disturbing turn as Abigail falls increasingly under Ella-Rose’s influence. Patrick grows suspicious of the group and its unconventional practices, leaving him struggling to determine whether his wife is being drawn into a dangerous cult or whether his own perception of reality is beginning to unravel. As the couple’s search for healing gives way to mounting uncertainty, Patrick must uncover the truth before he loses everything.

Darren Aronofsky Produces Pendulum

Aronofsky’s involvement is a major selling point for Pendulum. His collaborations with Heyman go back years, with Heyman serving as an assistant on The Fountain before working as a co-producer on The Wrestler, a screenwriter on Black Swan, and an executive producer on mother!. Heyman co-wrote the BAFTA-nominated screenplay for Black Swan with Aronofsky and has since worked on projects spanning several genres. His credits include the comedy drama The Skeleton Twins, which he co-wrote with director Craig Johnson, and The Boogeyman, the Stephen King adaptation directed by Rob Savage. He also created the Paramount+ series Strange Angel, about a rocket scientist whose life becomes entangled with occultist Aleister Crowley.

The film is produced by Aronofsky, Jacob Jaffke, Élan Klein Jaffke, Will Greenfield, Heyman, and Dave Caplan. The cast also includes Anna Deavere Smith and Jena Malone.
