Pete Davidson set to star as a fictional version of himself in new comedy series

Pete Davidson is attached to star in a horror project being developed by The Purge franchise creator James DeMonaco.

Pete Davidson is getting ready to play himself in a new series…sort of. Deadline reports that the longtime Saturday Night Live cast member will be headlining his own comedy series that is inspired by his life in which he will play a fictional version of himself.

The project is tentatively titled Bupkis and Davidson will all be co-writing the comedy series with his long-time friend and collaborator Dave Sirus as well as Judah Miller. SNL head boss Lorne Michaels will be serving as a producer. As of this writing, deals are still being finalized for the show.

Bupkis is being described as “a raw, unflinching, fictionalized version of Pete Davidson’s real life. It will include a mixture of grounded storytelling with absurd elements depicting an unfiltered view through Pete’s eyes.” The show is being compared to Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm and it’s said to feature unapologetically unfiltered, R-rated storytelling. The project is currently being pitched to streamers, with Prime Video and Peacock said to be the platforms that are the most interested. There is also talk of gathering A-list talent for the ensemble cast to be featured around Davidson.

This isn’t the first time that Davidson has pulled from his real-life for a project. Davidson and his partner Sirus co-wrote the film The King of Staten Island with Judd Apatow. That film, which also starred Davidson, was loosely based on his life, and it scored with critics upon release. The movie is currently fresh on Rotten Tomatoes at 75%.

Davidson is currently on leave from SNL to film the Miramax horror thriller The Home. He will next be seen in Bodies Bodies Bodies, which will make its world premiere at SXSW. He also has Good Mourning With U on deck with Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox, as well as Meet Cute with Kaley Cuoco. Throw in his very busy personal life which also grabs headlines, Davidson is poised to be a very busy man.
