Peter Mayhew’s widow welcomes Black Krrsantan to the Wookie family

Although we’ve seen other Wookies throughout the Star Wars franchise, Chewbacca is undoubtedly the one we love the most. Peter Mayhew played the walking carpet in A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Revenge of the Sith, and The Force Awakens, but a new Wookie has arrived. After first appearing in the pages of Marvel’s Star Wars comics, Black Krrsantan made the leap to live-action in The Book of Boba Fett and Peter Mayhew’s widow Angie Mayhew took to Twitter to welcome actor Carey Jones to the Wookie Family.

You have some giant shoes to fill, welcome to the Wookiee family,” Angie Mayhew tweeted. “Peter would have loved seeing a Wookiee truly unleashed!” Black Krrsantan is a Wookie bounty hunter who quickly proved to be a formidable opponent, taking out a group of Trandoshans and even ripping the arms off of one, something Han Solo alluded to in the very first film. Peter Mayhew sadly passed away in 2019 and never got to rip off any arms during his time in the franchise (although there is a deleted scene from The Force Awakens where he does just that) so he likely would have gotten a kick out of Black Krrsantan. When Peter Mayhew returned to the role of Chewbacca for The Force Awakens he shared the role with Joonas Suotamo, who wound up taking over for The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker, and Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The fifth episode of The Book of Boba Fett premiered on Disney+ today. With Boba Fett having recruiting Black Krrsantan to his cause earlier in the season, we’ll likely see more of what this feared Wookie bounty hunter can do in the final two episodes.
