Piranha on Blu in April

Last Updated on July 26, 2021

April can’t come soon enough for movie geeks: In that month, we’ll get the theatrical releases of NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, REPO MEN, KICK-ASS, ROSENCRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE UNDEAD, and perhaps most importantly (depending on your idea of important), Alex Aja’s PIRANHA 3D. I’ll admit that Aja’s flick is the one I’m most amped for; I really can’t wait for the man to go for fun instead of glum.

To help prepare us for the chomping, it’s been announced that the Shout Factory will be releasing the original Joe Dante classic PIRANHA on DVD and Blu-Ray! Now, there are no technical specs available yet, but I’m really hoping there’s a few new commentary tracks from Dante, and maybe even producer Roger Corman. Hell, they should just throw James Cameron’s PIRANHA II on there as a supplement.

The day of release is in question. Amazon reports May 4th, but other outlets are saying April 6th – which seems more likely, as the remake hits theaters on the 16th. Whatever the date, you can be sure I’ll be snatching it up.
