There's been talk of a Pirates 5 movie for some time, and now the release date has been set in stone: July 7, 2017. Walt Disney Pictures officially announced the release date of the next picture, albeit with no other details to go along with it. Previously it was reported that it would carry the subtitle DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES, and that the only returning characters were Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow and Geoffrey Rush's Barbossa. Whether or not any of that's changed is uncertain, but Espen Sandberg and Joachim Ronning are still on board to direct the film with a screenplay by Jeff Nathanson (RUSH HOUR 3, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN).

I've only seen each of the PIRATES films once, and while I feel Depp created one hell of a charismatic character in Sparrow, one great character does not make a great film. I enjoyed the hell out of the spectacle that was DEAD MAN'S CHEST, but I don't think they've crafted a well-rounded experience just yet. Here's hoping that with PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES (or whatever they call it), they can create something truly memorable.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES will be released on July 17, 2017.

Seems legit.
