We recently learned that Brad Pitt would reunite with his FIGHT CLUB secret self Ed Norton, but that’s for a political thriller called STATE OF PLAY. He’s saving the fisticuffs for Mark Wahlberg.
Pitt has joined Darren Aronofsky’s next film THE FIGHTER, replacing his own OCEAN’S 11 through 13 co-star Matt Damon, who couldn’t find room on his pre-strike schedule. The Paramount movie looks at the lives of boxer “Irish” Mickey Ward (Wahlberg) and his older half-brother and trainer (Pitt), chronicling their early days in a tough Massachusetts neighborhood, on through drug troubles and an eventual world championship.
The project seems like fairly traditional material considering Aronofsky’s past work… until the end of the climactic fight, when the loser turns into a big tree and the winner leaves the ring in a floating bubble.
