Disney acquired several iconic properties when they bought out 20th Century Fox – and that also gave Marvel Comics the chance to publish comic books based on those properties. Marvel is now the source for comic book stories based on Alien and Predator, and in a new announcement they have revealed that they’re going to be publishing a new Planet of the Apes comic book series starting in early 2023!

Marvel actually has a history with Planet of the Apes that goes back more than forty years, as they first published Planet of the Apes stories in 1974. In 1975, they published Adventures on the Planet of the Apes, which were “full-color adaptations of the iconic Planet of the Apes films.”

Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski provided the following statement:

We’re thrilled to welcome Planet of the Apes back to the House of Ideas! The new saga in the pipeline is going explore the limits of what this beloved franchise has to offer through bold comics storytelling, and we look forward to setting foot on this new adventure!”

Along with the announcement came the unveiling of a piece of Planet of the Apes artwork by Salvador Larroca, and you can take a look at that at the bottom of this article. Details on the plot of the first Planet of the Apes comic Marvel will be publishing in 2023 are under wraps at this time. They will be sharing information on things like story, titles, collections, reprints, and creative teams at a later date.

Over the last few decades, Planet of the Apes comics have also been published by Boom!, Dark Horse, Mr. Comics, and Adventure Comics, among others. Are you glad to hear that the property is back at Marvel? Share your thoughts on this news by leaving a comment below.
