Platinum Dunes say Friday the 13th Sequel not happening?

So Platinum Dunes are getting ready to hit us with their version of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET in just over a week, but what about after that? Back in December Platinum Dunes’ Brad Fuller (above left) offered a bit of an update regarding FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2, stating the script was finished and everything was looking peachy. So what happened?

Now before I get ahead of myself here, let me school you all on what’s going on. Over at Fuller’s Twitter account an eager fan asked the producer what the status of FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2 was:

“it is dead- not happening.”

That was Fuller’s response. Well damn… that’s coming out of left field, isn’t it? It seemed like Platinum Dunes were all gung ho about returning to Crystal Lake after tearing up Elm Street but alas I suppose that is not the case. Unfortunately those five words above are all we’ve heard on FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2 apparently being shelved.

Some details would be nice… but does it really matter? Who actually thinks this thing is going to stay dead anyway? Maybe I’m just grinding gears here but Platinum Dunes have an insane amount of projects lined up, there’s no telling what they’ll tackle next. Eventually they could return to Crystral Lake right? Or perhaps New Line could go to someone completely different to bring us the sequel? So many possibilities with no answers.

What do you guys think? This definitely seems like a subject that’s wide open to opinions. Are you glad FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2 is dead? Are you pissed? Hit us with your thoughts below and be sure to keep it here for more FRIDAY updates as we hear them!
