On Judgment Day (that’s August 29th to the rest of you) our man Eric gave us the heads up that Bloody-Disgusting was reporting the who in the question “who will be directing the upcoming POLTERGEIST remake?” Their answer? Vadim Perelman, director of HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG and THE LIFE BEFORE HER EYES (check the original story by heading THIS WAY).
Jump to today, some five days later, and the revelation that Perelman wasn’t just a rumor but the real deal, as The Hollywood Reporter announced this morning that he is, in fact, in negotiations to direct the remake. Maybe one of the most unnecessary remakes of them all, what makes the remake hurt even more is the fact that they hired the writing team who gave us BOOGEYMAN (Juliet Snowden and Stiles White) to revamp and update the film.
We must have done something to really piss the movie gods off. To this day, POLTERGEIST is one of the scariest movies ever made, and one of my all-time favorite flicks EVER. There’s no reason to remake this one, and it’s a slap in the face to have the f*cks who gave us the crapfest known as BOOGEYMAN “revamp” and “update” the damn thing.
On a brighter note, Perelman obviously has talent as HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG was a pretty good movie, so the fact that he’s on board is good thing for all of us. Hopefully he won’t make a crappy movie but a truly scary ghost story that will live up to the original (hey, a guy can dream, can’t he???).
