Poltergeist remake release date shifted to summer 2015

That Sam Raimi-produced POLTERGEIST remake has really been playing it close to the vest. We’ve seen nada from it on any front, have barely heard a peep about it really, save for Jared Harris mentioning that it would be released in 3D. Is it being kept under wraps to keep us in suspense, or are there more ominous things at play? (As in, it doesn’t look good?)

Whatever the deal is, we’ve got a little while longer to wait for it. Originally given a February 13, 2015 release date, the film is now scheduled to come out on July 24, 2015.

This isn’t necessarily bad news. Horror films are actually doing well in July (see: THE CONJURING, THE PURGE: ANARCHY), and there’s no competition on that date save for a comedy called TRAINWRECK. Plus, moving out of the February 13th slot gets POLTERGEIST away from FIFTY SHARES OF GREY, which we must admit, for better or worse, is going to be a gigantic smash. It’s not an unwise move.

POLTERGEIST was directed by Gil Kenan and stars Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jane Adams, Saxon Sharbino and Jared Harris.
