As Andy Muschietti's IT prepares to float into theaters this Friday, New Line is already more-than-willing to get started on making a sequel to the rebooted Stephen King classic. Recently, Gary Dauberman, one of the screenwriters of the new film, had discreetly signed on to pen the follow-up film. It's also being reported that Muschietti is poised to direct, though an official deal with the in-demand director has yet to be confirmed.
In addition to getting the above-mentioned band back together, it's also been said that producers Barbara Muschietti, Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg will lend their talents and expertise to the making of the sequel as well. So far, the new IT film has received some truly stellar reviews from both fans and critics alike. As a point of fact, you can read our own Eric Walkuski's opinion of the film here. For those of you who are familiar with King's It novel, you'll know that the lengthy story centers on a group of children who are terrorizes by a malevolent demon who often disguises itself as Pennywise the Clown. While the novel bounces back and forth between the younger and adult-oriented characters, New Line orchestrated the new IT film to focus solely on the kids as they deal with the supernatural threat in the 1980s (it was the 1950s in the book). With that all said and done, the sequel will focus on the adult versions of the "Losers Club", several years after surviving the horrific ordeal.
For the moment, sources are suggesting that the sequel will take place 27 years after the events of the new film. Additionally, no adult actors have been cast as the adult versions of the "Losers Club" kids, nor has a script been written. Honestly, if the studio plans to include the kids in some manner of flashback-capacity, they'd better start drafting those contracts and quick.
IT will float into theaters September 8th.
