Punisher: PG-13?

This is sad news in the world of comic book movie violence… let’s just hope it doesn’t end up being true. LatinoReview is reporting that Lionsgate, once friends of the genre and not giving a f*ck when it comes to what ratings their movies are given, is wanting PUNISHER: WAR ZONE re-cut into for a PG-13 rating. Say whaaaaat???

This sucks for a few reasons. One, if it ends up being PG-13, it’ll be the first PUNISHER movie in the last twenty years not to have an R rating. Two, the extreme violence and carnage that we’ve seen thus far from WAR ZONE seems to be the only damn thing the film had going for it–and they want to cut that out? And finally, it sucks because this may become the trend, releasing movies meant to be rated R as PG-13 just to make a few extra bucks. You know that’s the only reason for the change, and that’s f*cking lame!

If Lionsgate does end up releasing a PG-13 PUNISHER, I hope the movie bombs. I hope it’s the worst of the three PUNISHER movies. I hope it ends up sucking so hard that other studios will catch the drift and realize that an R rated movie (a movie that revolves around violence) should never be cut to something less with legitimate or artistic reasons.

Nothing’s official as of yet, so this could just be b.s…. we can only hope. To check out the full scoop, click HERE, and get ready for PUNISHER: WAR ZONE in theaters this December.

Thanks to Adam for the heads up!
