FEAR STREET, the R. L. Stine series for ghoulish teens, is heading to the big screen! The upcoming GOOSEBUMPS flick is performing so off-the-rails well even before its release, that it's no wonder they're trotting out the author's other properties. Stine has confirmed the development of the film, but he's mum on the details:

I’m not allowed to say, but yeah, there’s something happening. I’m usually a loose cannon but they really didn’t want me to talk about it.

A FEAR STREET movie is basically perfect studio fodder. It's still family friendly, but it draws in that all-important teen audience that Jack Black's GOOSEBUMPS might be missing. With over 100 titles to choose from – spread between the original FEAR STREET series and its many spin-offs – they certainly have a lot to work with.

Considering that the series largely centers on teen murder mysteries, this flick might just fit into the new wave of the slasher film including #HORROR and THE FINAL GIRLS. It might not be the direction hardcore fans of the subgenre want it to be taken, but the fact that teen murder is back in the theaters is very very good news.

Details are light at the moment, but soon you may be paying a visit to Shadyside, Ohio.
