Rashida Jones is a rumored contender for Wasp in Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man

While we still try to decide on whether we would rather see Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Paul Rudd as the lead in Marvel’s ANT-MAN, we now have rumors that there is a front-runner for The Wasp in Edgar Wright‘s film. Now, Wright has made it clear that Hank Pym is not necessarily the star of ANT-MAN, but he will make an appearance. When you have Pym, you have to have Janet Van Dyne. So, who is Marvel looking at for the part?

Superhero Movie News says it is none other than Rashida Jones. Jones’ name is not often one to pop up in casting for movies like this, but she is a solid actress who could carry the role well. Plus, this also lends credibility to the potential casting of Paul Rudd as the two have acted opposite each other before in OUR IDIOT BROTHER and as a couple in I LOVE YOU, MAN. Jones is also a closer age fit for Rudd than she would be for Gordon-Levitt.

The source for this rumor also claims that we will not see The Wasp in ANT-MAN at all. Janet Van Dyne will be a key character and hints will be made to her future as a superhero, but she will not actually gain any powers in the movie. I would think that Edgar Wright wants to focus on ANT-MAN in the first film and save something for the inevitable sequel.

I like where things are going with ANT-MAN, especially if Rudd and Jones end up being cast. They work well together and would make the most interesting casting since Robert Downey Jr landed IRON MAN. If the recent Hottie Report Card for Rashida Jones is to be believed, this is going to be a good decision.

ANT-MAN is slated to hit theaters on July 31, 2015.
