Here's the movie's synopsis:

The near future, a time when both hope and hardships drive humanity to look to the stars and beyond. While a mysterious phenomenon menaces to destroy life on planet Earth, astronaut Roy McBride undertakes a mission across the immensity of space and its many perils to uncover the truth about a lost expedition that decades before boldly faced emptiness and silence in search of the unknown.

Directed by James Gray from a screenplay he co-wrote along with Ethan Gross AD ASTRA was produced by Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Gray, Anthony Katagas, Rodrigo Teixeira, and Arnon Milchan. It stars Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, Liv Tyler, Donald Sutherland, Natasha Lyonne, and Kimberly Elise. 20th Century Fox released it back on September 20, 2019.

The film currently holds an 84% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: Ad Astra takes a visually thrilling journey through the vast reaches of space while charting an ambitious course for the heart of the bond between parent and child.
