Rebel Moon

If you ever wondered what it would look like if Zack Snyder made a Star Wars movie, Rebel Moon has now been released as Part I – A Child of Fire is available to stream on Netflix. It’s no secret that Snyder took heavy inspiration from George Lucas’ space opera, so beyond the obvious elephant in the room, we ask you — the audience — what did you think?

Our own Chris Bumbray had a blast at the Los Angeles screening of the movie, saying, “While Rebel Moon isn’t perfect because Snyder is perhaps a little too liberal in pulling from his influences to make his space epic, no one can deny how much of a blast it is to watch. Granted, if you’re not already a Zack Snyder fan or don’t like his style, this isn’t the movie for you. But, if you like his work, Rebel Moon is one of his better movies and a nifty start to what could be a very valuable franchise for Netflix.” You can read his full review HERE. Meanwhile, other critics haven’t been too kind as the Rotten Tomatoes score comes out to a rotten 24%. However, the audience score is much more positive at a 73% .

It should also be noted that this is the Netflix release version, which equates to a “theatrical version” and there will still be director’s cuts of both parts one and two. Snyder insists the director’s R-rated cut is basically a different movie. He told the Associated Press, “It’s not an ‘extended cut’ of this movie. It’s almost like a different movie. It’s almost a different universe that [the R-rated cut] lives in than this movie.“ Then, he added, “The reason for that is because it’s such a philosophical thing to shoot a director’s cut of a movie before you finish this version. All of my director’s cuts existed as a response to the things that were demanded of me to take out of the theatrical version, right? With [Rebel Moon], that demand was never really made. We knew it would be a PG-13 movie. In my heart of hearts, I’d always wanted it to be rated R, but you realize this sort of scale and cost of a movie like this, ‘Well, it’s not 100% responsible to have that be the demand.’“

So, now that the wait is over, was Rebel Moon everything you hoped for? What do you hope to see in Part 2 – The Scargiver? What do you hope to see in the rated-R director’s cut? Sound off below!
