Reboot of the Day: National Lampoon’s Vacation

JoBloJoBlo

Just this past Sunday, Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo reprised perhaps their most famous roles, Clark and Ellen Griswold, in a 14-minute short for a travel site. Now today we have news that the Griswolds are about to get the reboot treatment for a new film from New Line.

The studio is looking to relaunch the VACATION franchise, though they’ll drop the “National Lampoon” credit before the original’s title. Before you get freaked out that someone is going to cast George Lopez as Clark Griswold, rest easy, Chevy Chase will return as Clark. The catch is that the film won’t be focusing on him but instead will follow Rusty in more of a PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES type scenario. Chase and D’Angelo will reprise their characters in supporting roles as happy grandparents waiting for Rusty and his family to arrive.

The studios has hired Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley to write a new script with WEDDING CRASHERS producer David Dobkin directing. This new film would give us the fifth actor to play Rusty Griswold after Anthony Michael Hall, Jason Lively, Johnny Galecki and Ethan Embry.
