So I finally got my hands on [REC] today and I cannot wait to check that shite out. Hell I can’t wait to check out [REC] 2 for that matter, considering all the positive buzz it’s been getting. But is that buzz really a surprise? We all had a feeling [REC] 2 would kick ass right? Well it seems we may get the chance to check it out this Summer … in a US theater!
At least that’s the word over at Bloody-Disgusting. The BD guys are saying Magnolia Pictures may be planning on hitting us with [REC] 2 this July. Apparently Sony will follow up in October with the DVD release. Now if I were you guys I’d chalk this up as a rumor for now, as even BD are being cautious about it. That would be pretty awesome though, wouldn’t it? A potentially amazing international genre flick like [REC] 2 getting some major theatrical time here in the US? That shite could open a lot of doors…
[REC] 2 starts up almost immediately after the first film and follows a SWAT team armed with a video camera as they record all the mayhem inside the doomed apartment building. Sounds like a good time to me! The sequel will star [REC]’s Manuela Velasco (below) along with Jonathan Mellor and Ariel Casas. It’s coming from directors Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza and continues to impress wherever it goes. I’m sure the US won’t be much different. Keep it here for more on this potential [REC] 2 theatrical release!
