Red band Thoroughbreds trailer has a sharp tongue & fast pace

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Despite his sudden and tragic passing last year, Anton Yelchin was a busy man with plenty of irons in the fire, one of them the upcoming black comedy – THOROUGHBREDS. In the film, he stars alongside Anya Taylor-Joy (SPLIT, NEW MUTANTS) and Olivia Cooke (ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL, READY PLAYER ONE), as two friends who bring out one another’s destructive habits as they bond over the hatred of Lily’s (Taylor-Joy) stepbrother. You can watch the fast-paced trailer above, and perhaps let out a few chuckles before saying, “Okay, what the f@ck is this.”

Childhood friends Lily and Amanda reconnect in suburban Connecticut after years of growing apart. Lily has turned into a polished, upper-class teenager, with a fancy boarding school on her transcript and a coveted internship on her resume; Amanda has developed a sharp wit and her own particular attitude, but all in the process of becoming a social outcast. Though they initially seem completely at odds, the pair bond over Lily's contempt for her oppressive stepfather, Mark, and as their friendship grows, they begin to bring out one another's most destructive tendencies. Their ambitions lead them to hire a local hustler, Tim, and take matters into their own hands to set their lives straight.

I don’t really know what to make of the movie based on the trailer either, but the movie already premiered at Sundance earlier this year, and so far, the movie has received rave reviews. With a 94 percent on RT, critics are praising the movie’s style, sharp dialogue and a terrific blend of horror and satire. Yelchin was a great talent, and it will probably be a bit bittersweet to watch him in this. But he looks so good in it, and Taylor-Joy and Cooke are two of the better young talents working today, with Taylor-Joy, in particular, experiencing a meteoric rise after the success of SPLIT, with GLASS on the way. Can someone put her in a rom-com or something, just to give her a non-horrible experience to act through?

THOROUGHBREDS hits theaters March 9, 2018.
