I had heard that a trailer for the R-rated puppet murder mystery THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS is attached to this weekend's release DEADPOOL 2, and now a red band version of that trailer has arrived online for us to enjoy separate from the merc with the mouth's new big screen adventure.

Starring Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale, and Elizabeth Banks, THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS was directed by Brian Henson from a screenplay that has been worked on by Todd Berger, Dee Austin Robertson, Eric Hoeber, Jon Hoeber, and McCarthy. Sort of a blend of MEET THE FEEBLES and WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT?, the film has the following  synopsis:

No Sesame. All Street. THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS is a filthy comedy set in the underbelly of Los Angeles where puppets and humans coexist. Two clashing detectives with a shared secret, one human (Melissa McCarthy) and one puppet, are forced to work together again to solve the brutal murders of the former cast of a beloved classic puppet television show.

First announced in 2008, THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS has been a passion project of Henson's for the last decade, so I'm really glad it has finally been made. The trailer embedded below is a really fun preview of what Henson has in store for us with this one, featuring murdered puppets, foul language, drug use, and bodily fluids.

STXfilms will be releasing THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS into theatres on August 17th.
