Dwayne Johnson and his Jumanji writer and director, Jake Kasdan, are reuniting for a Christmas-themed action adventure. There is little known about the film, titled Red One, except that former Captain America, Chris Evans, will be starring alongside Johnson. Recently, Deadline has reported that Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star, Kiernan Shipka, will now be joining the cast.

Kasdan, son of Empire Strikes Back writer Lawrence Kasdan, is directing the film as an Amazon Studios original. The movie will be written by the former screenwriter of several Fast and the Furious films, Chris Morgan, including the entries featuring Johnson — Fast Five, Fast and Furious 6, Furious 7, and The Fate of the Furious. Morgan had also recently collaborated with Johnson for the Fast spin-off Hobbs & Shaw. Although the plot is yet to be revealed, the project has been described as “a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy imagining a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre.”

Johnson will be producing the movie with his company, Seven Bucks Productions, along with business partners Dany and Hiram Garcia. Hiram is also co-credited as a screenwriter for the movie. The Amazon original has not scheduled a release date as of yet, but it plans to stream in more than 240 countries and territories globally. Seven Bucks Productions had acquired the script after a competitive bidding war last year.

Shipka is best known for her role in the acclaimed, Emmy award-winning series Mad Men as Sally Draper. Shipka then went on to star in the Netflix franchise Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, a role previously portrayed by Melissa Joan Hart. She can also be seen in the upcoming horror film, Totally Killer, and a drama from Matt Smukler, titled Wildflower, co-starring former Johnson co-star Alexandra Daddario, which will be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival this year.

The movie is currently in pre-production, but it can naturally be assumed it will be released during the holiday time next year.
