Totally Killer: Kiernan Shipka, Olivia Holt star in Blumhouse time travel slasher

Last year, it was announced that Christopher Landon, who directed the time loop slashers Happy Death Day and Happy Death Day 2 U and the body swap slasher Freaky for Blumhouse, was producing a movie called Time Cut, which was described as “Back to the Future meets Scream“. We’re still waiting to hear more about Time Cut, but in the meantime Blumhouse has announced that they’re making their own time travel slasher called Totally Killer. Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and Olivia Holt (Cruel Summer) have signed on to star in the film, which follows

Jamie (Shipka) whose mom, Pam, is terrorized by the resurgence of the Sweet Sixteen Killer — a masked maniac that slaughtered a group of teenage girls in the ‘80s. With the help of her friend Amelia, Jamie travels back in time to 1987 and teams up with the teen version of her mom (Holt) to try and stop the killer.

Deadline reports that Kelcey Mawema (A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting) will be playing Jamie’s friend Amelia, with Julie Bowen (Modern Family) as the modern day Pam and Randall Park (WandaVision) in an unspecified role. Then we have Lochlyn Munro as Adult Blake, Charlie Gillespie as Teen Blake, Stephi Chin-Salvo as Marisa Song, Anna Diaz as Heather Hernandez, Jeremy Monn-Djasgnar as Teen Randy Finkle, Troy Leigh-Anne Johnson as Teen Lauren, Ella Choi as Teen Kara Molnar, Liana Liberato as Tiffany Clark, Nathaniel Appiah as Teen Doug Summers, and Jonathan Potts as Adult Chris Dubusage.

Nahnatchka Khan, who previously worked with Park on Always Be My Maybe and the sitcoms Fresh Off the Boat and Young Rock, is directing Totally Killer from a screenplay by Jen D’Angelo, based on an original script by David Matalon and Sasha Perl-Raver.

Totally Killer is a collaboration between Blumhouse Television and Amazon Prime Video. Khan had this to say about the project:

The idea of a horror-comedy time-travel movie is, I’m gonna be honest, something I never thought of in my life. So when I was approached by the amazing creatives at Blumhouse and Amazon about Totally Killer, it was just so unique and exciting I had to be involved. And then add this incredible cast on top of that? Everybody get readyyyyyyy.”

Blumhouse’s Chris McCumber added:

We thought this genre mash-up of slasher/comedy with a twist of time travel was just so fun, and Nahnatchka Khan is perfect to direct.”

Amazon’s Julie Rapaport said,

With Nahnatchka’s vision and the exciting cast led by Kiernan Shipka and Olivia Holt, we are confident Totally Killer will resonate with our audience around the world. We could not be more thrilled to watch this story come to life and to continue our longstanding collaboration with the incredible team at Blumhouse.”

Totally Killer, which started filming in Vancouver today, is being produced by Jason Blum for Blumhouse and Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath for Divide/Conquer. Khan and Chloe Yellin executive produce for Fierce Baby Productions, and Chris McCumber and Jeremy Gold are executive producing for Blumhouse Television. Brian Parker is also an executive producer on the film.

I’m always interested when a new slasher is announced, and the idea of mixing slasher kills with time travel is a lot of fun. Time Cut, Totally Killer, I’m on board for both of them.
