Reddick talks Day

Fangoria got a scoop today from screenwriter Jeffrey Reddick on the DAY OF THE DEAD remake’s cast, which was already reported to include Ving Rhames (who also starred in the DAWN OF THE DEAD remake), AMERICAN BEAUTY’s Mena Suvari, Nick Cannon, Michael Welch, Annalynne McCord and Stark Sands.

The update in question concerns Rhames role, which is not a reprisal of his character from the DAWN. Rather, Reddick states that Rhames will play Captain Rhodes (the asshole extraordinaire played by Joe Pilato in George A. Romero’s original), while Mena Suvari will portray Sarah (originally played by Lori Cardille in the 1985 version).

“Obviously, we’re all extremely excited about landing this cast,” says Reddick. “Mena Suvari has the intelligence, strength and beauty needed for the role of Sarah, and Ving… well, he’s the man, what more can I say? Nick Cannon is playing Salazar, and people are going to see him in a whole new light after this role.”. Reddick then went on to say that the film, like DAWN’s remake, will be a re-imagining of the original, and not a shot-by-shot remake, unlike 1998’s lame remake of PSYCHO (which included the oh-so-tasteful scene of Vince Vaughn jerking off). Let’s hope that Steve Miner can get the budget that George couldn’t for this one, since anyone who’s heard Romero talk of what DAY could’ve been knows that this remake has to improve on this one aspect.
